10th annual the international “Social Work & Society’ Academy“(TiSSA) Plenum and PreConference of the PhD-Network on “Social Work & Society – Between Private, Public and the State” will be held on August 24 – 29 in in Bucharest, Romania.
Prof. Dr.Dr. h.c. mult. Hans-Uwe Otto, Chair of the international TiSSA steering committee, representative from Bielefeld Center for Education and Capability Research in Bielefeld University announced that for quite some time now the European welfare state models have come under heavy pressure and it was characterised by the discussion on the nature of social solidarity under the impact of neo-liberalism.
In the announce of the event it is defined that this will provide crucial reference points to public and private service providers, particularly in the light of the new distribution of responsibilities between publicly financed, not-for-profit and for-profit organisations and the growing importance of NGOs and self-help initiatives. This discussion is particularly pertinent concerning socio-political programs under development in Central and East European countries and in the light of the politically motivated dismantling of classical welfare systems in West European countries.
Therefore, the 10th plenum of the “Social Work & Society Academy“ at the University in Bucharest will address issues which are of crucial importance for all European countries.
TiSSA provides a forum for involving professionals and academics in innovative discussion on theory and practice at the cutting edge of the social professions.
